Roti Canai @ Raju

It is common for you to see crowd at mamak. But how often do you see the people are there for the food?

P1030756

It's 11:30am Sunday morning. I was there for brunch.

P1030755

People come to Raju for the food....to eat.

P1030759

P1030764

I have to say. Their roti canai is the BEST I ever tried in Klang Valley! It's not too thin/thick, crunchy at the outer layer, tender inner layer. It will not stuff you, but makes you want to have more. I never had >1 piece of roti canai in my entire life everywhere I go....until Raju. That explains why the roti canai is RM1.20 per piece.

P1030753

The curry is nothing to shout about but the dhal is a must try.
P1030750 The no.2 most popular dish is the fried chicken. You will see each table surely will have at least one of these machine fried chicken marinated with spices.

The lean chicken has dry, thin & crispy skin but meat inside still juicy. RM4.50 per piece.

P1030763

P1030766Besides fried chicken, fried fish there taste just as good. Many types of freshly marinated fishes for you to choose. Ikan kembung is my all time favourite @ RM4.

Besides roti, they also serve banana leaves rice. If you love curry mutton, try Raju's...not bad at all. RM8 per plate.
P1030768

Because of it's location, in the morning many people go to Raju for breakfast after exercising at Gasing Hill. That's how I got to know the mamak. The place is shaded and nice to have a chat with friends...even until afternoon. Planning your trip now?

How to get there?
Raju is along Jalan Gasing. From PJ after the Universiti Hospital junction, go straight to Jalan Gasing. After about 1km drive, watch out for house no.92/93 (very visible, can't remember it's 92 or 93), then the "Kurangkan Laju" yellow signboard, both on your left. Turn left to a shop lots on your right. You'll see a Chinese restaurant at the corner, Raju is just at the other corner.

Food: Very good mamak food.
Ambience: Outdoor, shaded.
Price: If go in a group, it's common for you to pay >RM10 per person (incl. drinks & tax).

Rojak @ SS15 Subang

Once in awhile on Sunday afternoon, I like to drive to Subang for the rojak & cendol.

P1030734 Rojak SS15 Subang Jaya. Used to be a mobile van stall opposite of Shell petrol station next to the mosque. Moved to the special stall built by MBSJ last Oct.
P1030732 This is the normal crowd at the stall. Everyone knows what to do when they get here.
I've even seen people queuing under rain with umbrellas.
P1030731 There are no tables & chairs provided. It's either take away or find your own comfortable spot to eat :-)

P1030736 P1030735

One thing amaze me the most is the systematic operation. The stall runs by 3 persons. One cut the rojak ingredients, another one slices the cucumber & the other help up on other secondary tasks. You will see no interaction among all 3. They just don't talk! But when necessary, you will notice they are quite friendly.

P1030737
This is how it looks like when served. I always ask for more cucumber. They go very well with the sauce!
P1030738
This is the "Kosong" one @ RM3.
I consider it cheap for the portion
& varieties of ingredients.

The sauce is a little sweet & it's not thick. Won't leave a after feeling of "stuffed" even if you have the whole plate for yourself.

Right next to the rojak stall, you'll see another queue. The cendol stall, rojak's best friend...

P1030718
P1030720

P1030722 Not too sweet, creamy coconut milk, soft red beans.

Imagine a hot sunny Sunday afternoon and you're looking for snacks for tea break, rojak + cendol is THE choice.

How to get there?
The stall is nearby KFC @ SS15 Subang. It's a row of stalls by the road side. You will see the white van parking there.
Food: Good
Ambience: Roadside under tree
Price: Cheap

Pepper Soup @ Section 17

Whenever I feel like having pepper soup, I will go to Kedai Kopi Lucky in Section 17.

 P1030181

P1030179
This is not just ordinary pork noodles. They have pepper soup noodles as well.

All the men who operate this stall wear white shirt.

P1030177

Look at the toppings (minced pork). They are marinated & fried. Very tasty. The pig stomach is clean. Soup is hot but not too hot, just nice.

The wan tan mi & chee cheong fun in this kopitiam are also famous & delicious.

How to get there?
Kedai Kopi Lucky is at Section 17, facing the wet market.
Food: Besides pepper soup, pig stomach & liver sausage also good.
Ambience: Normal kopitiam.
Price: Cheap

Restoran Kah Hing

This is not an ordinary restaurant. Even though the exterior looks like a Chinese-style restaurant, don't be fooled by it. The restaurant is run by a group of Vietnamese immigrants. What's so special about this restaurant, you may ask....Well, they serve Vietnamese-style noodles, rice and the most important thing, Vietnamese Coffee....This restaurant is well-known among those staying in Taman Sri Sinar, Kepong area...

Tom Yam Steamboat @ Menjalara

If you stay in Kepong, this Ketam Seafood Steamboat Restaurant should not be new to you. The restaurants is very popular that if you go after 7:30pm during weekends, there will no empty tables left!

shop

I personally LOVE their tom yam soup! Looks can be deceiving. The soup might not look THAT hot & sour to you...but wait till it start boiling...HA! That is why I usually go during rainny days, so that I don't sweat that much :D It is too sour & spicy that I have to also order the clear soup for my friends.

steamboat

It's RM16.80 per head and these are what you will get. There are some ala carte for you to top up too.
Tips: My friends & I always order 1-2 pax less than the actual persons eating. Otherwise cannot finish.

set noodels

The chili here is one of its kind. Mix the read (less spicy) with a bit of green one (spicy hot) and stir them. I invented this way of eating...ahem! chili

chic wing Chic wing chili
Chic wing stall This bbq chicken wings stall outside of the restaurant is a MUST TRY! The skin is dry-to-crispy. And yet the meat is still juicy! Eat with the special made chili sauce....BEST bbq chicken wings I ever tasted. You will definitely come back for this :-)

One thing not good about this restaurant is, the tom yam soup not everyday same standard. Sometimes it can be not so sour & spicy but most of the time it's delicious :D So if your first visit does not seem to give you the effect like I described here, please consider to go back again ya.
