Restaurant Teow Chew Meng

It was my second time to Teow Chew Meng located @ Bandar Sri Damansara. Yea, that place is famous for its Steambot, so how on earth did I came across this place? We were scouting for food one day and was in that area when this restaurant opened. Tried it cuz the food looks interesting, and we went back again after hmm...a year??? ^_^

We ordered the signature dish - namely the mee sua teow, fresh octopus salad, seafood fried rice and seafood roll. They also have porridge, three taste oyster, kerabu mango and tom yam mee sua.

How to get there?
Teow Chew Meng in Bandar Sri Menjalara is located at the shoplot on your right, after you have passed the famous Yang Yang and Pulau Ketam steambot restaurant. Apparently, they do have branches in SS2, Aman Suria and Sunway!!
Food: Depends on one's liking.
Ambience: Cozy
Price: Can be quite expensive. Don't order the vegetable cuz it's not worth it!

Sambal Petai Prawn @ Section 17

I find it very difficult to get real good sambal dish here as compared to the place I came from, Kedah. Not even in some famous nyonya restaurant. Thanks to my friend, I finally have a place to go to when I miss my mom's cooking.

I've been a regular customer of this place since college for their wan tan mi, char kuey teow, Penang prawn mee & kuey teow soup, but I never knew the have such a fantastic sambal dish until a friend recommended to me last year.

"Ah Hock" side dish, the name itself tells you Hokkien is one of the channel here.

Sambal petai is a MUST TRY here! This is the closest to my mom's cooking. It's definitely better than the one in Madam Kwan's. Sambal petai with prawns of a 50 cents coin, serve with rice @ only RM5.50!

If you don't take petai....like me, replace the petai with ladies finger! Emmm....yum yum!

How to get there?
Restaurant Say Huat is a coffee shop in Section 17 PJ, where the morning wet market is, the same place which full of food stalls at night. It's the most busy area in Section 17, you won't miss it.

Pork Noodle @ KL

Never noticed this is a seafood restaurant until this photo was taken. I guess this is a seafood restaurant during dinner or perhaps it was a seafood restaurant prior to this. This restaurant is usually full by 12:30pm on a weekday.

Best pork noodle in KL! The owner is never stingy in adding the ingredients. You bowl of pork noodle always comes with lots of minced & sliced pork, pig's liver, meat balls, vegetables and a big portion of noodles. Add one spoon full of fried chopped garlic into the tasty soup and eat with the special chilli...get ready to sweat!

Besides kuey teow, mee and mihun, mi sua also served here...

How to get there?From Jln Sultan Ismail, turn left at Hotel Istana. Take first right turn, the restaurant is on your left (facing an under construction service apartment).
Open Mon-Sat.

Food: MUST TRY! Especially if you're working in KL.
Ambience: Coffee shop.
Price: RM3.80 for a big bowl of pork noodles with lots of ingrediets. Very cheap!

Mi Jawa @ SS2/1 @ Alison Mamak

Looks familiar? Bingo! Yes, it's the same stall as the Kedah Laksa :-)
C.Y. was there last the other day but managed to get only the Kedah Laksa. This posting is to complete his.

This picture is taken at 8:40pm on a Saturday. Can you see the queue?? The longest queing time my friends and I have experienced is 30min. No exaggerate...come and experience yourself!

Every time I'm here, I face the same situation. Laksa? Mi Jawa? Errr....laksa la. But I miss the Mi Jawa also wor...what about the fried mi teow???
End up....usually order everything and share :-p

Mi Jawa is popular in northen states but it's not so common here. Potato and tomato are the main ingredients for the gravy. See the toppings? Don't think you can find similar taste anywhere in KL/PJ. Come and order 1 for yourself!

Teow Chew fried mi teow. It's dry and well mixed with the tauge and vege. Eat with their home made chili...shiok! This is not heavy. You can order this to share.

At this stall, the Kedah Laksa is no.1, this cai kuey is no.2. The texture is so soft that you will want to put the entire piece in your mouth. I have some friends say the skin is too thick. But I also have a group of friends who are their big fans. Wanna try this hot selling items? You will have to be there before 9:30pm. Otherwise, tomorrow come earlier la :D

I've been a regular customer here for the past 11 years. Watching the queue gets longer and longer over the years. Started with only selling their No.1 & No.2, then added the rest....including tong sui (desert) and drinks. Brought a lot of friends here, they all like the food here. (Well, I'm not surprised :p)

The stall opens Mon-Sat. Closed on Sundays. Most of the time, the stall is ready for you to order from 8:30pm. If you go earlier, you will see people are either sitting there having a drink waiting for the food....or the queue already started, even before the food arrive. My advise is for you to go on a Saturday. Less crowd since most people have special plans on Saturdays...my thought only la ha :D

From Taman Bahagia LRT Station (on your left) go straight. Turn right at the traffic lights. Take the first left. The first street on your left, that's SS2/1. The last stall on your left.
Food: Everything is good here!
Ambience: Street stall.

Nasi Lemak @ SS2

One of the most common breakfast among malaysian... Nasi Lemak. There's this stall near SS2 police station where almost every morning, there would a queue of people waiting to get their hands on the Nasi Lemak. Don't believe me that people would queue for it...

Most of the people would add 'extras' to their Nasi Lemak...

My personal favorite ... SOTONG (squid) !!! :-)

BUT... if you like your nasi lemak with those spicy sambal then this may not be your type...

How to get there? Find the SS2 police station. It's opposite of the side entrance. It's the first stall from the right.
Food: Nasi Lemak.
Ambience: Street stall.
Price: Standard is RM1.30, add 'extras' RM0.50-RM2.00. 2 Std + 1 with sotong + 1 with sotong and extra rice : RM9.40.
